Newport-Mesa Announces New Principal for Rea Elementary School

Dr. Lorie HoggardNewport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Lorie Hoggard as principal of Rea Elementary School. She has more than 30 years of experience in education, and for the past 23 years has served as an administrator within NMUSD. 

Her experience includes prior assignments as the director of early childhood education and principalships at Sonora and Killybrooke Elementary School. Under her leadership, both schools achieved high levels of academic excellence, including recognitions for Distinguished School, Gold Ribbon and Title I Academic Achievement, and the early childhood programs earned national recognition. 

Her most recent assignment included leading the development and implementation of a robust district-wide elementary summer program, serving more than 2,000 students last year; and providing district guidance for the Advancement Via Individual Determination K-12 (AVID) programs in NMUSD schools.  

Dr. Hoggard is known for engaging parents, and creating an inclusive school community. She has a deep understanding of not only instruction, but also the social emotional needs of students. 

“Her experience and understanding of instructional leadership, combined with her focus on social emotional needs, make her a great fit for Rea,” said Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education John Drake.

Dr. Hoggard received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California and her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction and her Bachelor’s in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach.
