Hello Eagles! Below is the schedule for the week of September 26 - 30, upcoming events at Estancia High School, and important information for students and families.

Upcoming Events

 

Estancia High School will be celebrating Homecoming Spirit Week September 28-30.  Students are encouraged to dress up for spirit days.  The theme for Wednesday, September 28 is “Mardi Gras Never Sleeps” (wear pajamas).  The theme for Thursday, September 29 is “Taking a Trip Down South” (dress country).  The theme for Friday, September 30 is “Festival Day” (wear Mardi Gras colors of green, gold, and purple).

 

Estancia High School’s Homecoming Football Game will be on Friday, September 30 at 7 p.m. in Jim Scott Stadium. Students are encouraged to dress in Mardi Gras colors - green, gold, and purple - for the game.  All EHS students with a school ID card can attend the game for free as part of the school’s ASB for All program.  Come cheer on the Varsity Football team and see who is crowned as our Homecoming Royalty.

 

Estancia High School's Homecoming Dance will be on Saturday, October 1 from 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the EHS Commons. Tickets are on sale now through the Student Store! Ticket prices are $25 per student through September 23.  The price will go up to $35 per student after September 23.  All EHS students must complete a dance contract. Students may bring a pre-approved guest under the age of 21 to the dance.  Dance contracts and guest forms are posted below and are available in the Student Store.   Guest forms must be turned in by Thursday, September 29.  Tickets are on sale through Friday, September 30.  No tickets will be sold at the door of the dance.  The dance is semi-formal so dress to impress. Alcohol detection devices will be used at the entry of the dance. Students cannot bring backpacks or other large items into the dance. Questions? Students and faculty are encouraged to wear Estancia spirit wear on Friday, October 7. The first Friday of each month will be EHS spirit wear Friday. 

 

Coffee & Conversation with the Principal will be on Friday, October 7 at 9 a.m. on Zoom. Coffee & Conversation with the Principal is an informal opportunity for parents/guardians to engage in dialogue with school administrators.  The Zoom meeting ID is 940 6577 1965.  Spanish interpretation will be available.

 

The Fall Pep Assembly will be held on Friday, October 7.  Estancia will be on a special assembly bell schedule that day. The schedule for Friday, October 7 is as follows:

Club Rush will be held on Tuesday, October 11 during lunch.  Students will have the opportunity to learn about the various clubs offered at the school.  All students are highly encouraged to join at least one club.  Estancia offers academic clubs, service clubs, and special interest clubs.  Students are also welcome to form clubs with the approval of ASB.  Information about forming a club is available through the Student Store.  

 

The first English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) meeting of the year will be on Thursday, October 13 at 6:30 p.m.  The Eagle Parent University series topic will be focused on how parents can help support their students academically and will include information about tutoring resources available, study skills, and organizational skills. All parents are invited to attend ELAC meetings.  English interpretation will be provided at the meeting.  

 

The first quarter of the 2022-2023 school year will end on Friday, October 14.  

 

Wednesday, October 19 is College Spirit Shirts day. We invite staff, faculty and students to wear a college t-shirt that day.  

 

N-MUSD’s Virtual College and Career Night will be on Wednesday, October 19 from 5:30-8:30 pm. The Virtual College and Career Night will offer various opportunities to learn about college programs and assistance, as well as connect with more than 200 colleges and universities from throughout the United States and internationally. There will be career-related workshops, as well as workshops focused on college preparation and success, interactive industry panels, a live FAFSA breakout session, NCAA information, and virtual campus tours. California Shakeout Drill will be on Thursday, October 20 during 3rd period.  Students across the state of California will participate in an earthquake and evacuation drill.  Estancia Tutorial-Advisory Program classes (Eagle Advisory, Eagle Tutorial, Eagle Study, and Eagle Activity) will not be meeting that day.  Students are to report directly to Period 3 after break.  

 

Important Information

 

Student Meals:  Free breakfast and lunch is provided to all students.

 

Schoology: Newport-Mesa Unified School District utilizes Schoology as our grading platform.  Student accounts were created automatically based on their class schedule. Parent accounts, if your contact and portal account information match, are created automatically using the parent contact email address in Aeries.

 

Parent Portal: Families can access the Aeries Parent Portal throughout the year to update contact information, view student progress reports, report cards and student state tests reports.  If families have not completed the Mandatory Online Registration please login to the Aeries Parent Portal. Please follow directions to set up your Aeries Parent Portal account, if you do not already have one.  Elementary schools use this for registration, so if you already have one set up, you can add additional students to the same account.  We have also created a screencast to view how to set up an Aeries Parent Portal.  Please note that parents will need an email address to create an account. You can create an email address with any provider, click here for instructions to create a Gmail email. 

 

OCTA Youth Bus Pass:  The Youth Ride Free program has been extended by OCTA. The OCTA has issued new orange passes that will be good through September 2023. To request a pass, please complete a Parental Request Form (see attachment or click here) and provide the completed form to the main office to receive the free pass.

 

SchooLinks: The college and career readiness platform, SchooLinks, helps students discover their interests and strengths, explore colleges and careers, and create an individualized career and academic plan that best reflects their post-secondary goals.  SchooLinks is available to students in 7- 12 grade and their parents. Students will login to SchooLinks by clicking on the SchooLinks logo on their ClassLink Launchpad. Paper: Paper is an academic support system that provides students with unlimited access to a variety of tutoring services, such as one-on-one tutoring and essay review, through a secure online platform.  Students will login to Paper by clicking on the Paper logo on their ClassLink Launchpad. Tardy = Detention: Students who arrive late to school in the morning or arrive late to any class must report to the Attendance Office windows to check in and get a tardy slip.  Anyone who is tardy will be required to serve detention after school that day for up to 25 minutes.  Campus Safety and school administrators will be picking up students for detention.  

Parking Permits:  Students need a parking permit to park on campus.  Click here to apply for a parking permit.  Please note that a copy of the student’s driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance is required for a parking permit to be issued.  Students can only park in the student parking lot.  The student parking lot is located between the Main Gym and tennis courts.  The speed limit in all parking lots on campus is 10 mph.

 

Off-Campus Lunch:  Students in Grades 11 and 12 are allowed to leave campus for lunch with the permission of a parent/guardian.  The off-campus lunch privilege is valid as long as the student's attendance, grades, and citizenship marks are satisfactory. Students who fail to meet these expectations may have their pass revoked. It is expected that students with off-campus lunch pass permission will report promptly to class immediately following lunch, follow the bell schedule of the day, and comply with all applicable school and NMUSD rules.  Parents/Guardians who would like to give permission for their 11th or 12th grade student to leave campus at lunch should click here to request an off-campus lunch pass.  

 

COVID-19 Protocols:  Face masks are not required for students or staff however students and staff are welcome to wear masks for their personal protection.  Students and staff members are to stay at home when sick.  Parents and guardians should contact the Attendance Office at (949) 515-6505 to report that their student is ill. 

 

Reminder: No food deliveries or parent drop-offs are allowed. Please make sure students come to school ready and with all the materials, instruments, cell phones, or water they may need throughout the day. Campus staff will not accept any items to be held at the front office.

SOY:  Save our Youth (SOY) is open for registration and information this week Mon-Thurs, 4-8pm and Friday 3-6pm. You can register online or in person. Sign up for music, art, dance, soccer and fitness classes and receive tutoring and college application assistance at the SOY Center this week. For more information, visit the SOY website at www.save-our-youth.org or see the attached flyer.
