Design Visual Media Arts Pathway

The Design, Visual, & Media Arts Pathway at Estancia High School is a three-year Career Technical Education pathway that provides students the academic & technical skills to become a professional creative with a specialization in photography, graphic design, and filmmaking.  The DVMA Pathway is designed for students interested in discovering what the vast world of digital media production has to offer. 

Topics of study in the DVMA Pathway include the following:

  • Photoshop
  • Photography
  • Graphic design
  • Video production
  • Animation
  • Lighting
  • Website design
  • Showcase knowledge and skills through the creation of a media arts portfolio that demonstrates workplace skills and knowledge of industry practices

DMVA Course of Study

Multimedia Communications

This course introduces students to the world of media production using a wide variety of tools and software to create many forms of digital creative content. Topics include electronic music production, web design, graphic design, digital illustration, photo editing and video editing.  This course is open to students in Grades 9 or students at any grade level who need Humanities or Elective credits.  

Introduction to Media Arts - Year 1 of Pathway

This course helps students developed foundational knowledge and skills required for success in the multimedia, communications, and game design workforce.  Students develop skills in computer design, film and video production, lighting, sound and projection design, and print media design using industry-standard equipment and software.  Students also explore career options within this rapidly expanding industry sector.

Intermediate Media Arts - Year 2 of Pathway

This course builds on student competencies in film, video, computer, and live production design, as well as foundational knowledge in design.  The coursework deepens specific skills in computer design, film and video production, lighting, sound and projection design, and print media design in preparation for a project-based, portfolio-driven capstone course.

Advanced Media Arts - Year 3 of Pathway

Students have the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills in this project-based course.  Instruction focuses on creative components such as film, video, computer, and live production application in both the educational and work-based setting.   Students create a media arts portfolio that demonstrates entry level workforce skills and comprehensive knowledge of industry practices.

All DVMA courses are UC/CSU approved F courses.
