Hello Eagles! Just a reminder that school will not be in session February 19 - 23 due to President's Recess. Below is the schedule for February 26 - March 1, upcoming events at Estancia High School, and important information for students and families.

Upcoming Events

Our Advanced Placement teachers will be holding MANDATORY course interest meetings starting on Monday, February 26 during ETAP (10:10-10:40 a.m.).  Students who are interested in taking a course are to report to the designated meeting room to learn about the course, the course prerequisites, and the year-long commitment involved in taking an Advanced Placement course.  See the attached flyer to learn when and where the various AP courses will be meeting on our campus and what grade level the courses are open to.  We will also be offering a new AP course next year - AP Computer Science Principles.  Questions?  Please speak with your counselor. 

The Estancia High School College & Career Center will be offering seniors and their parents/guardians FAFSA/CADAA Application Support on Thursday, February 29 from 2:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in Room 207. Families in attendance will receive support from the EHS College & Career Specialists, EHS Counselors, and college representatives in completing either the FAFSA or CADAA for student aid for college. Families are welcome to leave after submitting their application. All graduating high school seniors in California are required to complete an application for financial aid. Families should bring financial documents including their most recent tax returns and bank statements, Social Security Number (if applicable), FSA ID for student and parent, and Chromebook. Spanish interpretation will be provided. 

Coffee & Conversation with the Principal will be on Friday, March 1 at 9 a.m. on Zoom. Coffee & Conversation with the Principal is an informal opportunity for parents/guardians to engage in dialogue with school administrators.  The Zoom meeting ID is 968 4705 8035. Spanish interpretation will be available.

Estancia High School will be having a fire and evacuation drill on Tuesday, March 5. Estancia Tutorial-Advisory Program classes will not be meeting that day. After break students will report directly to Period 4.

Applications to be a 2024-2025 Link Crew Leader are due on Friday, March 8. There is an application for NEW Link Crew leaders and a separate application for RETURNING Link Crew Leaders. If you have any questions regarding Link Crew, please speak with Mr. Rodig, Mrs. Moore, Ms. Rodriguez, or Ms. Lee. 

ASB elections for the 2024-2025 school year will be held on Thursday, March 14. Students can submit their ballot before school, during break, and during lunch in the Commons. 

Estancia High School's Future Eagle Night for incoming 9th grade students and their families will be on Thursday, March 14. The evening will begin with a presentation in the Main Gym starting at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by an Information Fair and campus tours. Families can also speak with teachers in each department about course offerings. Current EHS students and families are invited to attend the Information Fair which begins at 7 p.m. to learn about the academic, athletic, and activity programs offered at Estancia. 

Estancia High School will be on a modified day schedule on Friday, March 15. Students will be released from school early that day

There will be an Estancia PTSA meeting on Monday, March 18 at 6 p.m. in Room 207.

Estancia High School will begin administering the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) to English Learners March 18 - April 5

The Third Quarter of the 2023-2024 school year will end on Friday, March 22.

Important Information

Local Control and Accountability Plan Survey: We need you to take this year's parent survey! The Newport-Mesa district office sent an email to you on Monday, January 30th about the survey. Please go online and take the parent survey as soon as possible. Our goal is to have every family respond. The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes. You can find the Parent survey at the following web address:

E-Bike Safety: With an increasing number of students riding e-bikes to and from school and a few students recently getting injured while riding an e-bike, it is important that students operate their e-bikes safely.  Wearing a helmet is mandatory if you are under 18 and if you are riding a Type 3 e-bike which can go up to 28 mph. The rules of the road apply to all who ride an e-bike - stop at red lights, stop signs, and ride in the same direction as vehicle traffic.  Stop and look both ways before entering a roadway.  Be cautious at intersections.  Passengers need a separate seat - if there is not a separate seat, do not double up on an e-bike.  Make sure drivers see you.   Do not wear headphones or earbuds to ensure you can hear traffic. The Costa Mesa Police Department will be monitoring Estancia students riding e-bikes to and from school.  A citation for not obeying the California Vehicle Code could result in a $500+ ticket.  Be careful Eagles! Costa Mesa Police Explorer Program: Are you interested in becoming a Costa Mesa Police Explorer? If you are interested in a future career in law enforcement this is the program for you! You can also complete your Senior Project by serving as a Police Explorer. Police Explorers learn about the following:

  • Physical fitness
  • Traffic control
  • Firearm safety
  • DUI investigations
  • Crime scene investigations
  • Domestic violence
  • Building searches
  • Report writing

Best Buddies Battery Recycling: Do you have old batteries at home and don’t know what to do with them? If so, you can bring them or send them with your student to school. The Estancia Special Education Department is recycling old batteries to raise funds for the program through the Costa Mesa Sanitary District's Battery Recycling Contest. You can bring your old batteries to the front office and drop them in the Battery Recycling box.  Thank you for supporting both our students and the environment! Your contributions are appreciated!

Theater Project Update: The demolition of the existing site is complete. Grading and underground utility work is in progress. Building of the foundation system will follow in the coming months. See the attached flyer for more information.

Student Drop-Off & Pick Up: Parents/Guardians who drop off and pick up their student from school should expect congestion and plan accordingly.  Please avoid making illegal u-turns on Placentia Avenue and dropping your students off on Placentia Avenue. Please see the attached flyers for images of the parking lot designations and visit the Construction Projects Webpage for additional information regarding the construction of the theater. 

Tardy = Detention: Students who arrive late to school in the morning or arrive late to any class must report to the Attendance Office windows to check in and get a tardy slip.  Anyone who is tardy will be required to serve detention after school that day for 25 minutes.  Campus Safety and school administrators will be picking up students for detention.  Students must serve detention the day it is issued.  

Parking Permits:  Students need a parking permit to park on campus.  Click here to apply for a parking permit.  Please note that a copy of the student’s driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance is required for a parking permit to be issued.  Students can only park in the student parking lot. Please see the attached map for the new student parking lot location. The speed limit in all parking lots on campus is 10 mph.

Parking On Campus: Please note that all vehicles should be in a designated stall when parked on the Estancia campus. Parking elsewhere can create unsafe conditions for pedestrians and may result in a parking ticket or your automobile being towed. We will focus particularly on the areas near the Estancia pool, varsity softball field, and outdoor basketball area (see map below). Kindly keep everyone safe and avoid driving through or parking in this space.

Off-Campus Lunch:  Students in Grades 11 and 12 are allowed to leave campus for lunch with the permission of a parent/guardian.  The off-campus lunch privilege is valid as long as the student's attendance, grades, and citizenship marks are satisfactory. Students who fail to meet these expectations may have their pass revoked. It is expected that students with off-campus lunch pass permission will report promptly to class immediately following lunch, follow the bell schedule of the day, and comply with all applicable school and NMUSD rules.  Parents/Guardians who would like to give permission for their 11th or 12th grade student to leave campus at lunch need to complete and sign a form.  

Student Meals:  Free breakfast and lunch is provided to all students.  

Schoology: Newport-Mesa Unified School District utilizes Schoology as our grading platform.  Student accounts were created automatically based on their class schedule. Parent accounts, if your contact and portal account information match, are created automatically using the parent contact email address in Aeries. Click on the links below for resources for parents/guardians regarding Schoology. 



Parent Portal: Families can access the Aeries Parent Portal throughout the year to update contact information, view student progress reports, report cards and student state tests reports.  If families have not completed the Mandatory Online Registration please login to the Aeries Parent Portal. Please follow directions to set up your Aeries Parent Portal account, if you do not already have one.  Elementary schools use this for registration, so if you already have one set up, you can add additional students to the same account.  We have also created a screencast to view how to set up an Aeries Parent Portal.  Please note that parents will need an email address to create an account. You can create an email address with any provider, click here for instructions to create a Gmail email. 

SchooLinks: The college and career readiness platform, SchooLinks, helps students discover their interests and strengths, explore colleges and careers, and create an individualized career and academic plan that best reflects their post-secondary goals.  SchooLinks is available to students in 7-12 grade and their parents. Students will login to SchooLinks by clicking on the SchooLinks logo on their ClassLink Launchpad. Reminder: No food deliveries or parent drop-offs are allowed. Please make sure students come to school ready and with all the materials, instruments, cell phones, or water they may need throughout the day. Campus staff will not accept any items to be held at the front office. 

OCTA Youth Bus Pass:  The Youth Ride Free program has been extended by OCTA. The OCTA has issued new purple passes that will be good through September 2024. To request a pass, please complete a Parental Request Form (see attachment or click here) and provide the completed form to the main office to receive the free pass.

SOY:  Save our Youth (SOY) is open Monday-Thursday from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm and Friday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  Students can register online or in person.
