Current sophomore and junior high school students are invited to apply to represent their peers as a Student Board Member for the 2026-27 school year. Selected representatives from each comprehensive high school, plus Early College, Back Bay, and Monte Vista, will play a vital role in amplifying student voice across the district.

During the one-year term, students gain leadership experience, participate in Board of Education meetings, and advise district leaders on NMUSD initiatives. They rotate sitting at the dais during Board meetings, publicly share student perspectives, and cast preferential votes that are recorded in the official minutes. While non-binding, these votes provide meaningful insight to help guide the Board’s decision-making.

Student Board Members will meet regularly with the Board’s student liaison to review meeting agendas, attend the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Annual Education Conference, and gain valuable firsthand experience in educational leadership and policy.

Completed applications are due April 30, 2026. Final candidates will be interviewed the week of May 4, 2026.
