Estancia High School rolled out the red carpet to welcome families of incoming ninth-grade students to Future Eagle Night last week. More than 500 people attended the event, which showcased the school’s unique offerings.

Principal Michael Halt kicked off the evening with a quick presentation recognizing some of Estancia’s recent achievements, including its recent designation as a California Distinguished School. He and Assistant Principal Jennifer Chamberlin spoke about the benefits of attending a smaller high school such as a more personalized approach and opportunities for students to be involved in several academic, athletic and activity programs. Among its standout features is Lyceum Academy, a specialized support program for academically motivated students who plan to attend a four-year university. The school also offers 17 Advanced Placement options and dual enrollment courses through Coastline College. 

Families were invited to learn more from educators and current students at tables in the commons area. Educators from each academic department shared information about course offerings and curricula. Featured among the tables were representatives from the four Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways the school offers: Estancia Medical Academy; Engineering Design; Building Industry Technology Academy; and Design, Visual, and Media Arts.      

With 22 teams, more than 70 percent of which qualified this year for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs, students have a plethora of opportunities to get involved in sports. Plus, Girls Flag Football will be added to the athletics roster in the fall.

Activities that cater to students’ special interests and partnerships with community organizations such as the Estancia Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA), Save Our Youth (SOY) and United Way were also well-represented.  

Members of the Link Crew (peer mentors and role models who strive to support freshmen academically and socially in their transition to high school), Associated Student Body, and faculty lead families on campus tours to further highlight the advantages offered by Estancia.
